Todo
[edit]- Patrick is born in County Cork, Ireland (according to allmusic) but grew up in South london (according to tomlab.com). When did he move from Ireland?
- What happend between the release of "Lycanthropy" and "Wind In the Wires"
- His relationship with the artist Bishi and their subsequent break-up and argument over the (now cancelled) album Patrick was producing. [1] Mernard 00:28, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Patrick being born in County Cork is infact a myth. He has a lot of family over there, but was born by the Thames, at St Thomas' Hospital.
- What source do you have for this? David Björklund 05:21, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- His birth certificate... !
Patrick himself has said that he was born in St Thomas in South London. Look on YouTube!!! ALWAYS mentions it when doing gigs in London! I read somewhere he made up that he was born in Ireland as he was getting bored with saying the same thing during some interviews during publicity for the "Wind In the Wires" album! —Preceding unsigned comment added by IndieGinger (talk • contribs) 19:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
Lycantrophy Album Article
[edit]Ummm, There was no article for the album Lycanthropy, so i made one, but i'm not so good with the code so i didn't replace all the links in this article (the old ones took you to an article about mythology) but i did get the one with the pic of the album art, anyway... the article about the Album is under "Lycanthropy (Album)" Echud123456 17:14, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Army of Me
[edit]I have just realised that there is one track of his in the Björk album Army of Me: Remixes and Covers. In this article it is linked to P. Wolf, but I am not really sure if that is him. So, if someone knows if he made the cover, could add it to this article or, if not, could cancel the link.--Nauki 17:46, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
It is Patrick Wolf that has made that remix. But I'm not really that good at writing, so could someone else please do it? Arcid 16:42, 8 April 2007 (UTC) Arcid
calling it quits
[edit]hate to be the bearer of bad news but according to this forum post (which has been confirmed authentic) patrick has had enough of the bullcrap. sad but we must all move on :( Catbeef 03:39, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- gaha, just noticed it :p Catbeef 03:40, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- I've been hearing that he takes back that statement, and just intends to do a smaller amount of live conserts. Can anyone confirm this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Arcid (talk • contribs) 19:34, 1 May 2007 (UTC).
The wolfboy has confirmed that his is indeed still making music and will continue to do so. Also he has stated in a recent interview (post forum comments) that he has 2 albums in the pipeline:
"Despite his recent post on a fan message board...it turns out Wolf just plans to take a little break from the cycle of touring and promoting records.
Even Wolf's break looks to be busy, though. He already has two albums' worth of material written for his follow-up to The Magic Position..."
"Pitchfork: And it's going to be a double album?
PW: Well, there are two albums. So maybe it's going to be two separate albums, two albums at the same time, like a double release. Both are written, lyrically. One of them is going to be orchestral: extremely beautiful and celebrating neuroses and mental breakdowns. [The other will be] hard and techno and almost like death metal..."

LGBT?
[edit]I realise there's a little bit about his sense of 'sexual ambiguity' at the bottom of the article but this doesn't equate to him saying he's gay or bisexual - he's just being coy, as always. I mean, plenty of people play with gender or camp/kitsch/glitz. Is he really LGBT let alone an 'LGBT musician'? Bobplays 00:50, 11 April 2007 (UTC) He's openly bi - http://www.ssonet.com.au/display.asp?ArticleID=6728 Pinchofhope 12:54, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Whether or not he identifies as "LGBT" I think it is clearly obvious that he belongs in the broad category of LGBT artists and performers. Yes, I know, Wolf's non-identification challenges the very concept of identity politics which are behind the categorization of "LGBT," but that is not a point which is relevant for debate on Patrick Wolf's page. The point is: Kids who are questioning their sexuality can look at Wolf and see someone who does not define himself as a heterosexual and can be inspired by the visibility of non-heterosexual conformity. That's enough to meet the standard of "LGBT musician" -- whether or not he fits narrowly into a particular identity-based definition. Jasonfb (talk) 18:27, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, I would like to move that this sentence is pejorative and should be re-written: "He is currently involved in a long-term homosexual relationship with an undisclosed partner". The word "homosexual" is generally considered pejorative by most gay people and violates WP's NPOV. Also, the term "long-term" is also biased in this context, and without a citation begs the question what "long-term" means. Finally, what does "undisclosed" mean? I guess it means that *we* don't know- but presumably Wolf's close friends and family know who it is. The fact that the knowledge is not in the public domain does not make the description "undisclosed" relevant unless there is some additional context for why it would be undisclosed (Like, Wolf has been asked several times who his partner is but refuses to name him publicly...). I would suggest re-writing it as: "He is currently involved in a relationship with an same-sex partner." Jasonfb (talk) 18:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm not really sure why this even has a section, it's not really a major part of the Patrick Wolf package. Interesting, sure, but I'm not sure how relevant. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.159.71.116 (talk) 14:36, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Piano/organ/harpsichord etc
[edit]The "Wolf plays many instruments" part is overkill. The clavinet, harpsichord, piano, organ, and clavichord are all keyboard instruments played in much the same way. It's like saying Chris Martin from Coldplay can play the acoustic steel string guitar, the acoustic nylon string guitar, the electric Strat guitar, the electric Les Paul, the 3/4 guitar etc etc etc. If you can play one, you can play them all, what is the point of listing them all?! -- Mikenosilly 12:19, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
I'd agree. Its fair enough to mention them somewhere but really, being a pianist does not make you a mult instrumentalist.
St Thomas's Hospital
[edit]Why is this detail in the first line of the article? It's fairly unremarkable, and certainly not unique, definitive or particularly significant - shouldn't it be move to later? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.106.168.209 (talk) 20:19, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out. I have moved it to later in the article, although I wonder if it significant enough even to be mentioned at all. --Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 21:03, 15 December 2007 (UTC)
"Two years later, he left home, choosing to live wild and free around London. "
[edit]That phrase does smack rather of romantic hpyerbole. I'd say ripe for a change. --Vincentvincent (talk) 14:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Sentence appears to have been removed from the page. I would argue that "wild and free" is suspicious, although I would have kept it had there been sufficient documented sources that could cite an unarguably "wild and free" living. Jasonfb (talk) 18:41, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Sic
[edit]A quote reads: "What I meant was: Please let's put an end to over-marketed, expensive, heartless, tacky rubbish, autotune, airbrush...
I demand justice for good music and firebrands who refuse [sic] to compromise to be popular." I'm not sure, but what's [sic] about this, please? 80.7.181.120 (talk) 20:01, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
The sentence is not grammatical. "Good music" is a thing and should use the relative pronoun "which". "Firebrand" refers to a group of people so the relative pronoun "who" is appropriate. Jasonfb (talk) 18:45, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Frankly, the majority of the page reads like it was put together by his agent. Needs totally rewriting. 62.255.248.225 (talk) 08:41, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
Notable
[edit]I don't think he is notable, isn't he just a wannabe? 80.7.235.36 (talk) 16:30, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
As outlined in "Criteria for musicians and ensembles" (see Wikipedia:MUSIC), Wolf meets criteria #1 and #5.
Jasonfb (talk) 18:37, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Of course he is notable, he's signed to a record label and has released several albums and singles --A Chain Of Flowers (talk) 12:45, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Clutches head and rocks back & forth* ... Patrick Wolf is amazing. --Duphin (talk) 22:08, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
"Battle" Album article
[edit]Isn't it about time an article was created for this? Most other albums have the article made several months, and in some cases years, before the album is released. There are plenty of sources for it, as well as a number of songs confirmed to appear on it. --A Chain Of Flowers (talk) 12:45, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
The OTT list of instruments Patrick plays
[edit]The list seems a bit bloated and, dare I say, a bit pretentious.
It seems like he can play KEYED instruments very well, and can play a few others. From experience, playing the piano/keyboard/harpsichord/clavinet etc is essentially the same process.
Would anyone object to the sentance, "Patrick utilises a wide variety of instruments in his music, most commonly the ukulele, piano and viola.", replacing it? --A Chain of Flowers (talk) 11:26, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
Born Where?
[edit]Wasn't he born in London (St. Thomas Hospital)? It is mentioned above and he also states it in this interview: http://www.blogotheque.net/Patrick-Wolf-interview-in-English . The article states he was born in Cork, Ireland. 92.117.178.18 (talk) 13:13, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
Merge from Bloody Chamber Music
[edit]The Bloody Chamber Music article was proposed for deletion recently by an IP, who claimed that most of the information is already in this article. It isn't. The record label doesn't merit a standalone article, and a summary of the content there should be merged here, then the article on the label redirected to this one. --Michig (talk) 11:09, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
- Merge carried out. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 09:46, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
