[edit]This almost seems as if it was hastily translated from another language. Or should I just get a bit more sleep? ;)--Lucky13pjn 02:21, Jun 20, 2004 (UTC)
The second sentence is very difficult to understand. Do the wikilinks really point to the right article? // Habj 16:28, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Mistakes and omissions
[edit]This page is not history, but history-fiction !
1) "Spanish exploration of the area began in 1531 with Nuño Beltrán de Guzmán's expedition."
You forget some facts : Guzman had been president of the Audiencia of Mexico (1528-1530), he was sacked in 1530 and he created his own "kingdom" as a challenge against the authorities of Mexico, notably Hernán Cortés. He was arrested in 1536 after the arrival of the viceroy Antonio de Mendoza.
2) "Instead, Queen Joanna — at the moment the acting regent of Spain"
Queen Joanna, aka Joanna the Mad : theoretically she was not the regent, but the queen of Spain as the daughter of Isabelle and Ferdinand, but her son Charles (Charles I of Castila and emperor Charles V) was officially co-king of Spain since Ferdinand's death (1516). Practically, she was sort of prisoner in a monastery, and the true king and regent was Charles. Jcqrcd44 (talk) 09:07, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
