Reverted to original article with minor edits. I think most of the article was a copywright violation taken verbatim from the Emory University website http://www.emory.edu/ENGLISH/Bahri/Das.html. I think the poems would be a copyvio also. --BC Lafferty 16:38, 14 Jul 2004 (UTC)

This article has been re-written to avoid the copyvio. problem. -- PFHLai 17:58, 2004 Jul 16 (UTC)

think someone needs to check the POV of this article and the neutrality

Sadiq Ali may be just an imaginary character. See this malayalam video interview of her son Nalapat: നുണകൾക്കെതിരെ കമല സുരയ്യയുടെ മകൻ പ്രതികരിക്കുന്നു…: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIc-jU1gIhk

The statement in the Final Phase section is not supported with strong reference. If there is no reference, I will protest for it's removal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Umairsy (talkcontribs) 05:09, 1 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How comes a nobel prize nomination when the nobel committee reveals the identity of nominees and referees only after 50 years? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.110.246.230 (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2015 (UTC) @Malayala Sahityam: You need to stop edit warring and discuss things here to arrive at a consensus. If you want to contest any of the existing sources as reliable or not, please do so. - Kautilya3 (talk) 14:08, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Am I edit warring? I opened a discussion right after my first revert in the other user's talk page. But he / she seems not willing to discuss and goes on pushing his/her POV here. Malayala Sahityam (talk) 19:32, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And regarding the source used here. It is a controversial writeup in an obscure Hindu right-leaning Malayalam newspaper. If that is considered reliable then Islamicbulletin is ten times more reliable as it is an international publication and the source is an interview with the author herself rather than a writeup by someone who claims to have known her. And radianceweekly reproduced parts of that interview in their obituary to the author. I don't see a reason why the authenticity of these publications be questioned. Malayala Sahityam (talk) 19:34, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will check the background of the dispute. But note that this is the English Wikipedia, and not everybody would know the ins and outs of Malayalam newspapers. So, please take your time and present your evidence for why this is a "Hindu right-leaning newspaper." Right-leaning doesn't mean that we rule it out. The question is whether it is a "mainstream" newspaper. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 20:40, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Malayala Sahityam and Snowcream: It is indeed not correct to use community publicaions like Islamic Bulletin and Radiance Weekly. WP:RS requires us to use mainstream newspapers. Janmabhumi appears to be a mainstream newspaper to me. However, it is better to use English language sources. The newspaper search [1] shows plenty of sources in English. The interview in Outlook in particular seems quite informative. So, please replace the sources with more reliable ones. It will be an improvement to the article. You should also not use reporters' opinions or opinion columnists' opinions unless they are well-known scholars. It is not write to state that The Hindu called it her "histrionics." However, the factual information that the lady was making her conversion issue a public debate is worth stating. Please restrict it to facts from reliable sources and minimize opinions. I found it interesting for instance that she was wearing purdah for several years before converted to Islam. She had also discussed the idea of conversion with her first husband for several years. These are facts worth mentioning. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 21:50, 19 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Janmabhumi is the BJP mouthpiece in Kerala and cannot be taken as a reliable source in this context. Moreover Leela Menon's writeup was quite controversial with many sources including Surayya's son MD Nalapat questioning its credibility. Islamicbulletin is an Islamist publication but the article they carry is an interview with the author exclusively on her conversion. So to question its credibility would amount to suggesting that the interview itself is fabricated which is not a possible case. Anyway I will try to include more reliable sources like Rediff.com which conducted numerous interviews with her at the time of conversion. Malayala Sahityam (talk) 02:28, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Due to continous edit disputes and addition of defamatory content without reliable sources, I have reverted the changes in 'Conversion to Islam' section and protected the page for now. Please discuss here before any addition. -- Tinu Cherian - 10:28, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Tinucherian: Tinu, this is the censorship that these editors want to have. Sorry if I am not assuming good faith here, but I can't find many reasons to. I don't have the time and inclination to take my case forward here. The highly motivated editor(s) find it much easier to make it prohibitively costly for people like me to engage them by strategically burdening me or people like me with the cost of defending my perspective. All they want is an admin to revert the page to an `uncontroversial` edit, which effectively submits to their demand of censorship. Among other things, let me put forward three questions? (cf. this diff)
1. Why was the reference to the Muslim League party and the name of Sadiq Ali dropped when a verifiable citation from a WP:RS namely Tehelka existed (‘He asked me to become a Muslim’ Tehelka Magazine, Vol 7, Issue 50, Dated December 18, 2010).
2. Yes, this is English Wikipedia. English sources are preferred, but English Wikipedia lets you quote non-English sources, with a caveat that a translation be given. This can be easily done without much effort. This particularly pertains to the mention of a Muslim League MP's name, which the author wants removed. If the given source is not reliable enough, there are many other sources including this one from Reporter
3. Why was the discourse here about Kamala's sexual life censored? Does Wikipedia consider it prudish to publish such a thing? I don't think so. The source The Love Queen of Malabar: Memoir of a Friendship with Kamala Das, Volume 3 By Merrily Weisbord (page.225) I guess is good enough to place the content there in the article.
I hope as the admin who protected the article, you yourself will see to the above and evaluate for yourself if the Wikipedia page is held hostage and censored for a powerful politician. Snowcream (talk) 06:57, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
