- I agree regarding feud, but as to fee which redirects to fief, this word and the historical development of the legal concepts behind it are at the heart of property ownership in every common law based legal system. True, as it refers to feudalism it is probably just a simple concept about land that is held by the vassal or overlord but this meaning is only one among many, for example the ownership of land is known now mostly by the term, fee simple, this is the greatest estate in land that one can possess and the evolution of this concept in English and American land law is not at all a simple definition. I would request that an entry on fief and fee not be sent to the Wiktionary but allowed to develop here as the underlying concepts are important to an understanding of the historical development of the private, absolute ownership of land in post feudal societies. If left here I promise to put it on my to do list and add some knowledge about this important topic in English legal history. Alex756 05:46, 25 Aug 2003 (UTC)
