The Beatles

[edit]

"It retained the band's epic sound while showing increasing influences ranging from jazz and blues to the Beatles, the last of which is extremely evident in the hit single "Sowing the Seeds of Love"." Uh, this isn't evident. It doesn't really sound Beatles-eque at all. 98.221.133.96 (talk) 09:14, 17 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't sound Beatles-esque?! 'Sowing the Seeds of Love' good enough for you?--Degree9 (talk) 20:53, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I heard a radio dj once tell as an introduction to this song (Seeds Of Love) that the song was received with the criticism it was a rewrite of "I am the wallrus". Still not exactly "evident", but it's something. - burt777 - 2010-03-15

Both Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith refer to "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" as a "Beatles pastiche". So if it comes straight from the horse's mouth... 94.14.14.87 (talk) 21:07, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reissue in 2016 ;-)

[edit]

Obviously confirmed for 2016 doesn't mean it actually gets reissued in 2016, but I guess the article can stay like that until the actual release date is revealed...Jules TH 16 (talk) 19:29, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New info

[edit]

So, the box set has unveiled a lot of new info. From my own hearing and partially confirmed by the liner notes, the drums on "Advice", "Swords and Knives" and "Famous Last Words" are completely programmed (!), while "Year of the Knife" uses a mixture of real and programmed drums.

It also appears that Curt probably played nowhere near as much bass as the article currently asserts. And Ian played keyboards on "Woman in Chains".

TFF/Bascombe mixing parts of "Year of the Knife" and Oleta singing on "Badman's Song" is obviously missing. Jules TH 16 (talk) 20:50, 17 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Here's how I would arrange the personnel section, but some of this is guesswork:

Why I think Standing on the Corner of the Third World shouldn't be merged into The Seeds of Love

[edit]

I feel that the article shouldn't get merged into The Seeds of Love and if it was to be merged, than shouldn't every other non-single be merged to their respective album? And if not, then shouldn't Standing on the Corner of the Third World not be merged? If anybody has a good reason for suggesting the merge, then I can agree with the merge.
