Requested move 14 May 2019
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:07, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
– The basketball player is the primary topic for “David Robinson”. He averages about 1,800 views per day. The drummer averages about 120 views per day. All of the other “David Robinsons” are on the order of 10 or less. Should the proposed move be successful, I think it would be a good idea to add a hatnote for the drummer, and then a disambiguation link for the rest of the people with the same name. Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 05:21, 14 May 2019 (UTC) Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 05:21, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. As another reference point, the basketball player is the only entry at Encyclopedia Brittanica (couldn't link the full search query as it's somehow blacklisted).—Bagumba (talk) 05:36, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Of the 30 or so individuals listed on the dab page, David Robinson (basketball) has received 84% of all page views over the last four years and is consistantly the most viewed of these articles by a significant margin (pageview analysis of top 10 David Robinsons). If that's not a primary topic then I don't know what is. PC78 (talk) 23:48, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Yes, this looks like a clear primary topic. Nohomersryan (talk) 23:54, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. This very common name has 32 entries listed at the David Robinson disambiguation page — far too many for anyone, except an unarguably unanimous, throughout the entire English-speaking world, household name capable of dominating such a large assemblage of notables. In a situation of this nature, few could rise to the occasion and the sports figure in question does not seem to meet the very high requirements. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:26, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
- It makes no difference how many names are listed on the dab page. If there were 100 names and yet one article was clearly sought by a majority of readers, surely that strengthens the argument for having a primary topic? PC78 (talk) 10:53, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
- Support - Unlike some of the similar cases that have cropped up recently, Robinson’s case doesn’t rest solely on page views (flawed logic IMO). Robinson has historical significance (as evidenced by the encyclopedia entry) - Hall of Fame basketball player, Olympic Gold Medalist, college Player of the Year, etc. Rikster2 (talk) 11:14, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Calidum 14:26, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom. A highly notable figure on several fronts. bd2412 T 03:31, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
