Merger proposal
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I think living torpedo should be merged into human torpedo. Both cover similar subjects however human torpedo is broader. And living torpedo is of sufficiently small size be be explained in human torpedo or added to a section of human torpedo.173.24.167.213 (talk) 22:51, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
- Support: The discussed article is sufficiently niche in scope so as not to be necessary as an independent article and contains content that would enhance this page. @173.24.167.213: Fireboltsilver (talk) 05:16, 19 December 2019 (UTC)
- Support: Seeing as the page Living Torpedoes refers exclusively to humans, kamakaze or suicidal torpedos should be a Sub category of Human Torpedo. 192.77.12.11 (talk) 06:02, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
The history feels like it starts too late
[edit]The very first submarine, the Turtle of 1776, was essentially a human torpedo. The first line should add the word modern: "The modern concept of a tiny manned submarine...." PapayaSF (talk) 02:57, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Merger proposal (2023)
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- There is consensus to merge Living torpedoes to Human torpedo. Felix QW (talk) 11:07, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
Seeing as no official consensus was reached last time, I'm reopening the proposed merge of Living torpedoes to Human torpedo. The former details an instance of the latter (Polish resistance during WWII), and could pretty easily be truncated and summarized down into the Human torpedo article. 192.77.12.11 (talk) 02:00, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support merge. Joyous! Noise! 03:27, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- (adding note)
I don't think the earlier discussion was closed with a lack of consensus. There just wasn't anyone who wanted to step up and actually merge the articles.Striking that comment. I didn't notice how old the original proposal was. Joyous! Noise! 03:30, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
Merging Living torpedoes here
[edit]While the merge seems to have had overwhelming support, the source article is currently littered with citation needed tags, and since I cannot speak Polish to evaluate the given sources myself, I would defer to those who do speak the language for implementing the merger. Felix QW (talk) 11:17, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- I don't support the merge. The topics overlap slightly, but not fully - I am afraid some previous commentators just looked at the article's names but not the content. Living torpedoes is effectively the human torpedoes in Poland subarticle. It seems relatively well developed, and merging it here would result in an unduly long section. I think I'd prefer to keep things as they are, with a short section on Poland here, and a dedicated, longer subarticle. Merging this here makes about as much sense as merging Kaiten or Chariot manned torpedo would make. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:17, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- PS. Ping @Joyous! who is de facto the only pingable participant of tjhis merge outside the closer (Felix). Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:18, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- I understand the discussion had limited participation, but as the merge proposal was essentially open for 13 years without opposition, I felt it would be reasonable to give it closure.
- Personally I have no opinion on the merits of the merge. Felix QW (talk) 14:53, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
I have now redirected Living torpedoes here without merging any of the content. All the encyclopaedic content on that page has been challenged for months without inline citations having been provided. The article did contain a list of general references, which I reproduce here below. Editors who speak Polish may find them useful for adding content to Human torpedo#Poland, and if sufficient verifiable encyclopaedic information can be found, one can discuss splitting that content out again in the future.
