User:Mrs.HippieBurning
I picked this name after watching the movie Mississippi Burning. It dawned on me that many of my hippie ideas were misaligned versions of the same prejudices that once burned out of control in Mississippi.
While I and my hippie friends saw ourselves as "hip" to what was wrong with everyone else, we really were setting ourselves apart as a chosen few with an exclusive view of what is right and wrong in the world. When I saw my friends rage out of control in riot after riot, confident in the glory of self-righteousness, I began to reexamine my self-perceptions. I retain many of the doubts I held as a younger person about the "establishment" but I have grown to have doubts about my self as well. The name also speaks to the intense passion, and expecations with out tie-died expectations we saw as so "cool".
I created the user account in response to a call for member advocates. The page states:
You do not need to be a member of Wikipedia to join. AMA members without Wikipedia user accounts are encouraged to put alternate contact and identity information on the Member Statements page.
I will try to create or edit some articles under this user account, because that seems to help some members gain trust for a user name. But don't expect a lot of prolific writing -- I write when inspired, but prefer not to write something when I haven't done a lot of research, and am not eager to contribute innacurate or incomplete information on speculation that others may come along and fix it. If you want to discuss something with me regarding advocacy, but want a more private forum, leave contact information on the talk page associated with this user name.
