[edit]Why is this listed under criminals? Isn't that a matter of opinion and whatnot?
- More than one of these people

Chicagoans Under Debate - Please Provide Source of Citizenship (under doubt)
Shouldn't the list be compiled with surnames first? And with the full version of a given name instead of an abbreviation? For example: Instead of Al Capone, shouldn't it be "Capone, Alphonse"
McHenry 03:09, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
Three things:
- We have inconsistent capitalization. I'm not feeling hobgoblinish enough to change this, but probably we should choose one way and stick with it.
- We're going to have a huge list if we keep adding anyone who has any connection to Chicago! Related topic: should we note which people are Chicago-born, grew up in Chicago, or live in the city now?
- Are all of these people truly notable? I would focus attention on the entries that don't even have Wikipedia entries . Some of them clearly should stay, but probably some of them are really non-notable. As for "Fred Anderson," this is such a "vanilla" name that a Google search would be meaningless. Until someone adds a Wikipedia entry (at least) for this person, this entry should stay off the list.

[edit]A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. Oprah Winfrey?
[edit]Oprah Winfrey lives in Chicago. She is no where to be found on this list. I think she belongs here. She is the most powerful woman in America, and the world's only Black Woman Billionaire. She changed the lives of many people, and is the reason for the advancement in African Women. Also, I have no idea where she is from, and I am stupid. While Oprah may or may not be awesome, she's from Mississippi, not Chicago. I should realize this but I lack the requisite amount of brain cells.
hey you idiots
[edit]a lot of these people aren't from chicago, and if anything are taking advantage of what the city is and has to offer. hell, i'm a Ukrainian American, and so is Ditka, but I was born here and he wasn't. He might have done more for this city (I don't think so, that Bear team should have won 2 or 3 Super Bowls, Lovie is my President) but he sure as hell isn't a famous Chicagoan. He's a famous guy who made it in Chicago. I don't mean to slander Ditka, I'm just using him as an example. He's not a famous Chicgoan. He's famous all right, but he isn't from Chicago. I say this page has only people who were born here or made their life here at an early age. Otherwise we can have a page called "People who took advantage of chicago for fame and profit." We can put Ditka and Oprah as the first two.
Michael Jordan
[edit]Yes, I know Michael made his career in Chicago and he is cherished by all Chicagoans, but he was actually born in Brooklyn, NY. Shouldn't we be keeping each other honest here? Nik 04:45, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
