[edit]I need to do some research (in other words, I might be wrong), but I don't think that 'pit viper' is synonomous with 'viper'. The redirect from 'Pit viper' to 'Viper' might (or might not) be suboptimum. I'll see what I can dig up. Brian Rock 16:18, Apr 3, 2004 (UTC)
- What is described here is not one species of viper but all vipers. The bushmaster is a viper with its own article. The pit viper which is not only a snake but also a "a remotely operated cleanup system". Of the snake there are apparenly several among them Tropidolaemus wagleri, Wagler's pit viper. In an article I found this to identify "pit vipers": "The term "pit viper" refers to heat-sensing "pits" which occur on each cheek - these are used to locate prey. As with other pit vipers, this species has haemotoxic venom, meaning it is poisonous to the blood system.
- You are right pit viper deserves its own page. GerardM 22:06, 3 Apr 2004 (UTC)
Should the Bushmaster be linked on both the Pit Viper page and this one? --Neonstarlight 03:02, 16 May 2004 (UTC)
