- 1870 - Construction on the Kansas Pacific Railroad (map shown), building westward from Kansas, reaches Denver, Colorado.
- 1900 - Regular service begins between Skagway, Alaska, and Whitehorse, Yukon, on the White Pass and Yukon Route.
- 1904 - The Grand Trunk Railway and Canadian Atlantic Railway sign an agreement that will place the Canadian Atlantic under Grand Trunk's control.
- 1940 – Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft's prices now apply to Alsace-Lorraine, annexed by Germany.
