[edit]Did Cleveland actually ever say "But it's my only line!" or is the author or authors of this article getting her confused with a different actress who said that multiple times in a later episode? Actually, in some episodes Cleveland had a LOT of lines (Scott of the Sahara, for example), and I bet she had more lines overall than Terry Gilliam.
I will try to determine whether Cleveland herself ever said "But it's my only line."
- If I recall correctly, that line was a running joke in ONE episode only (it's in the sketch with the bed salesmen who exagerate/understate the dimensions of the beds). Not sure if it was Carol who played the woman in that sketch. Bonalaw 12:55, 25 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- I thought it might have been Connie Booth in that sketch. But in any case, there's no way it was Cleveland – it looks nothing like her except for being blonde. QuartierLatin1968 20:41, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- In the fourth episode ("Owl Stretching Time"), which was the first time the line was uttered, I believe it was said by Katya Wyeth. Shsilver 18:38, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- The bed scene definitely had Carol in it. She had the line "but its my only line" although that line was used often in another episode as well.Fkh82 23:12, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
"that line was a running joke in ONE episode only (it's in the sketch with the bed salesmen who exagerate/understate the dimensions of the beds)."
That's not true. It was used frequently in the "it's a man's life" episode - with the military guy and the self-defence teacher who was obsessed with fruits and shot a student and crushed another with a giant weight. I'm pretty sure in other episodes too.... --4.245.2.46 23:38, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)
"It's my only line" was said by Katya Wyeth (Wife) to Michael Palin (Critic) in an art gallery sketch and by Terry Gilliam (Man) during a link with Graham Chapman (Colonel) in Episode Four
Wife (bringing in a water jug and glass on a tray and laying it on his desk) Watteau, dear? Critic What a terrible joke. Wife But it's my only line.
Man This is my only line. (catcalls) (defensively) Well, it's my only line.
"It's my only line" was said by Katya Wyeth (Girl) to Michael Palin (Art Critic) in an art critic sketch and Carol (Bride) in the mattress sketch in Episode Eight.
Girl (cutely) I'm not your Grace, I'm your Elsie. Critic What a terrible joke! Girl (crying) But it's my only line!
Bride We want a mattress. (Lambert immediately puts bag back on head.) All Oh. What did you say that for? What did you say that for? Bride (weeping) But it's my only line!
As far as I can tell Carol only said it once, so maybe it's not notable. But it was funny! --Richard 23 10:35, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
images
[edit]i added some captions and moved the images around. feel free to revert it if you prefer the way it looked before. i just don't like images without captions, and the way they were just stacked on top of each other was annoying. there you go. heh. riana but of course i'm listening 15:01, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Disputed Credit
[edit]There seems to be a point of contention as to whether Ms. Cleveland was ever on The Benny Hill Show, as claimed here. Her official website does not mention Hill's show among her credits (though she does note having appeared on The Two Ronnies). She was definitely not in any of the 58 editions of Hill's 1969-1989 Thames TV series of specials. Was she possibly in at least one of his 1960's BBC endeavours? Or, to put it another way, where or how'd the rumour get started? –Wbwn 18:26, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Removed nude scene comment due to WP:BLP concerns
[edit](Note: Heading added, see WP:REFACTOR)
<<She appeared nude (briefly) in two Python sketches, apparently avoiding the censors by showcasing extended cleavage.>>
Cleveland never appeared nude in Monty Python. The closest she ever got to that was her running away from the camera in the last scene of "Scott of the Sahara." (Additionally, the sentence above really doesn't make any sense.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.38.193 (talk) 21:27, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, and according to http://www.carolcleveland.com/python.htm she has expressly denied this. I've removed the comment in its entirety, and considering this is a WP:BLP issue, I'd strongly advise that it not be added back, without a verifiable source claiming otherwise. -- RoninBK T C 15:21, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
