Merger
[edit]I have merged the "Minister for Education & Science" and "Minister for Education" articles as:
- they were orginally one article in any case,ok
- the 1997 changes were the renaming of the title only and did not create a new ministerial position,
- we do not need to complicate wikipedia by pretending its anything but such, redirects to new titles is sufficent.

Merge with Minister for Irish
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
A small amount of work on references for ministerial appointments brought to light that the position of Minister for Education in the 2nd Dáil was a renaming and restructuring of the position of Minister for Irish, see ALTERATION OF MINISTRY OF IRISH TO MINISTRY OF EDUCATION. Merging the lists will make this clear. There was a continuity in personnel, with John J. O'Kelly, Minister of Irish in the 1st Dáil, continuing as Minister for Education in the 2nd Dáil. This had previously been missed, as the in error, the similarly named Seán T. O'Kelly had been named as the Minister for Irish. Confusingly too, they served as Ceann Comhairle and Leas-Cheann Comhairle, and were often referred to in the Dáil record as Seán Ó Ceallaigh and Seán Ua Ceallaigh! As if determined to confound future chroniclers! —Iveagh Gardens (talk) 09:45, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
- Agree with merger. Spleodrach (talk) 07:14, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
