Overview
[edit]The list below shows redirect pages in the main english article namespace which point to articles that do not exist. It was generated on 6th December 2004 from the 15th November 2004 database dump.
Preamble
[edit]Redirect pages are used to automatically 'hop' to their target when linked to. This allows an alternate names for an article to be used to bring it up. Redirect pages without a valid article to hop should be deleted or pointed to a relevant article that does exist.
Common reasons for broken redirects:
- The target page exists, but contains accents, umlauts, etc. The redirect page appears as "1. REDIRECT" followed by a (blue) link to an existing article with a valid page title. Fix: click edit on the redirect page, replace all occurrences of "%XY" with the correct character, e.g. "é" directly. Click save.
- The target does not exist. Three possible fixes:
- Re-redirect to an appropriate existing article.
- Write the non-existing article.
- Mark the article as a delete candidate, giving the reason. This applies in particular to cases where neither the redirect nor the missing target article are linked from anywhere (click the red link, and then click "What links here" on the edit page to find out). Abbreviations, in particular if they're cryptic and overspecialized, also fall into this category. Use your judgement!
There's a section for deletion candidates at the bottom, you might want to move such entries to the "Not reported yet" section.
Regenerating this report
[edit]This report is generated from a Link Analysis Database using the SQL:
select replace( concat( '*[[', art_title, ']] → [[', link, ']]' ), '_', ' ' ) from art, bad_links where art_is_redirect = 1 and bad_links_from > 0 and from_id = art_id order by art_title;
Suggested improvements
