Title

[edit]

Shouldn't the title be The Simpsons' opening sequence ? NorwegianMarcus 11:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

Why is there no mention of the Flintstone's undertones/references in the opening sequence? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 204.227.243.16 (talk) 21:13, 29 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Re-animated

[edit]

I have a sneaky feeling the title sequence has been reanimated at least once at some point. A lot of the characters looks incredibly off-model (compared to the excellent continuity now), but I'm sure it looks better on some episodes. Does anybody know any better? Has it ever been re-animated at all? I know the chalkboard and couch-gag are new for each episode, though!

I saw a Season 1 episode earlier today, and it does seem like it has been reanimated. KingDaveRa 18:44, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It was re-animated, but very very early on into the show's run to start the second season in 1990. It hasn't changed since then (save for the obvious couch/chalkboard) as far as I know. BillyH 00:26, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

I've suggested that the chalkboard gag, saxaphone gag and couch gag articles be merged here. Comments? Dalejenkins 13:45, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK for Saxophone gag and Couch gag, but the chalkboard gag should have a separate article. The first aren't so famous detached frome the opening sequence, while the chalkboard gag is (see the numerous parodies for instance) talking Cherry 10:04, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've suggested the The Simpsons Theme Song article be merged here as well. Input? Wikidudeman (talk) 21:27, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Simpsons theme was recently covered by Green Day and hit #19 on the UK singles charts. -- Scorpion0422 21:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why can't that be mentioned here? Wikidudeman (talk) 21:34, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because the page is cluttered enough. And, the proposed song guidelines say that a charted song meets notability requirements. Please find a notability guideline that denies the song a page. -- Scorpion0422 21:40, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see why you can't unclutter it. Was the song part a single that was high on the charts? That could also be mentioned here. Wikidudeman (talk) 21:42, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, please find a guideline that says the song can't have its own page, other than WP:IDONTLIKEIT. -- Scorpion0422 21:49, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The argument is that it can easily be merged here. I don't see the point in making it it's own page since most of the info is redundant. Wikidudeman (talk) 21:51, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think the fact that it is a charted single done by a group that has little to do with The Simpsons is enough. After all, having a link here from the Green Day page makes little sense. -- Scorpion0422 21:54, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that Greenday had a song about it doesn't mean it needs it's own separate page. There are many theme songs that were charted by bands but don't have their own pages. The info in that page doesn't even deal exclusively with the Greenday single. Much of the info is redundant. Wikidudeman (talk) 21:57, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The argument that a similar page doesn't exist isn't an argument. The page deals with the theme song as a whole, and when I have more time and more sources, I'll improve it. And, how is it redundant? There are only 3 lines about the theme on this page! -- Scorpion0422 21:59, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll let the frequenters of this board provide some input regarding it. I've notified some of the folks at the WikiProject The Simpsons and maybe they can provide some input. Wikidudeman (talk) 22:02, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note, aside from Scorpion, I'm pretty much the only active member of the Wikiproject that actually does anything related to The Simpsons on a regular basis. And I agree with Scorpion, it meets notablity guidelines (in my view), and is probably one of the most famous theme songs of all time. Gran2 22:19, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well if no one else comes along and no consensus is made, you guys can just take the tag down in a few days. Wikidudeman (talk) 22:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I say keep. Darrenhusted 14:03, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A source

Here's a source for the page, but I currently don't have time to add it. [1] -- Scorpion0422 14:05, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

source for Maggie's 847.63 $

[edit]

The next shot shows Marge and Maggie checking out at a supermarket, with Maggie inadvertently being scanned along with the groceries. The cashier rings her up at $847.63 (which was the monthly cost of raising a baby in 1989)[citation needed] and Maggie is mistakenly packaged. Source: http://www.snpp.com/other/papers/dk.paper.html But it's not where the original statistic. 22:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I could have sworn there was a SALE printed on the register on some episodes at least. This was exposed on a "the making of" spoof, and I used a pause live TV feature to check. I think this might only affect syndicated versions, because I think I have seen another version of "the making of" episode that offered another secret message. 68.144.80.168 (talk) 21:06, 1 June 2009 (UTC)The new opening sequence is now 488.88[reply]

Screeching sound

[edit]

Has anyone noticed that in the early episodes there was a horrible screeching sound as Bart was writing on the blackboard, and there was an episode where the blackboard gag said something like "I won't screech chalk anymore". After that episode these horrible screeches seem to have stopped. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.167.54.189 (talk) 16:33, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image Image:Simpsons 19x01 movie callback.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

New Sequence

[edit]

According to a Fox press release, the first LABF episode, which airs on 2/15, will have two significant changes; it will be in High Definition, and the show's opening is changing (and not just the chalkboard and couch scenes, either). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.67.79.210 (talk) 17:11, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Someone should write a Wikinews article about this, if they haven't already. StevePrutz (talk) 14:17, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering if the differences between Take My Life, Please and How the Test Was Won could be accounted for by weekly variations of the title (eg chalkboard, couch gag) - that is, I'm thinking every week the crow may fly in a different direction (one week left, one week right, maybe even mixing it up from top to bottom?), and the billboard might say something different (this definitely lends itself to a weekly gag). I say if something is different for No Loan Again, Naturally, then that item (crow, billboard, maybe something else (Barney? Disco Stu? Ralph?) should be added as a weekly opening title gag, along with the chalkboard, Lisa's solo, and the couch gag. --Canuckguy (talk) 16:11, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I concur Canuckguy (love the name, btw). I was just about to comment about that. Futurama openings also had multiple changes; fans love to catch those little things each week, so more will likely be forthcoming.BBlze1 (talk) 17:27, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So, what about adding the Ralph and Barney gags? --141.149.173.78 (talk) 08:56, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Crow.

[edit]

Perhaps it may not entirely be relevant, but it would be interesting to point out that the crow's squawk is the same crow noise featured in almost every establishing shot of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. Caleb Osment (talk) 12:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Too detailed

[edit]

The descriptions of the various versions of the opening sequence are too detailed, which is a violation of WP:NOT#PLOT. We use just as much space to describe the HD version as we would do a plot for an entire episode. I believe trivial details should be omitted, such as how much Maggie costs and which people are seen in the background. Furthermore, I believe the sections should only mention what has changed since the last version, so that we don't retell the same structure three times. --Maitch (talk) 02:28, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, there is way too many specific detials, like you said about much Maggie costs. It is all fancruft. I like the idea of mentioning changes since the previous version only, instead of retelling the opening 3 times. CTJF83Talk 02:33, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why was the Ralph Gag section removed?

[edit]

It was removed from that article and I see no good reason. --78.149.50.71 (talk) 15:21, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, same with the Barney gag. There are 3-4 different gags of both of these out of 7 HD episodes so far, and some of those 7 eps skipped right to the couch gag. --141.149.174.167 (talk) 03:15, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[2] records all the new gags in the opening to date. --71.243.49.237 (talk) 07:43, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Ralph gags are in like 6 out of 431 episodes. So it isn't worth listing. CTJF83Talk 07:56, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Then remove the billboard gag... They added a bunch of new gags when they switched to HD, so "only in 6 episodes" should apply to all the new gags. --71.243.49.237 (talk) 08:10, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The TV

[edit]

The crow in the opening

[edit]

I just watched Season 21 episode 3 and there was no crow squawk at the power plant during the opening of the show. Does this need to be changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.0.139.84 (talkcontribs) 09:21, 12 October, 2009 (UTC)

Looks like the first three episodes had three different things where the crow usually is. The crow, Shary Bobbins, and a stork carrying Maggie. If this continues it should be added. (Per past discussion, animation changes are more notable than audio changes). --Wean0r (talk) 22:55, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Texting?

[edit]

The article says that Sheri and Terri are texting, but the shape of the object and the movement of their hands are closer to playing a Game Boy Advance. BrickBreak (talk) 19:43, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Series 23 Episode 1

[edit]

Article needs to include the special opening sequence from Series 23 Episode 1, featuring the melody from The Police's song "Walking on the Moon". Adam Reece (talk) 17:04, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

John Kricfalusi

[edit]

Should Amid Amidi's glowing review be given so much emphasis in the section? Amidi is a friend of Kricfalusi's and he's served as an editor for an unpublished book of John K's art. I think there's some Wikipedia policy about first-party sources praising their own work or the work of people very close to them. IsaacAA (talk) 18:45, 11 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lisa's Solo

[edit]

The last sentence in the "Lisa's Solo" section says "So far in the new opening sequence Lisa hasn't played the original Simpsons saxophone solo."

It looks like she played the original solo in "Fabulous Faker Boy" (S24 E20). I don't watch the series a lot, so does anyone know if she's played the original solo in the HD opening in any episodes beside this one?

P.S. Link to a video of Fabulous Faker Boy: http://www.hulu.com/watch/489142

Supermarket price scanner gag?

[edit]

I'd always been told, even read, that there was a gag when Maggie gets scanned by the cashier in the supermarket, and that something flashes up on the screen every time. Now when I look into it, it seems that it's always a number ($847-something) representing the monthly cost of raising a child at the time, except on two occasions, when it flashed "NRA4EVER" and once when the number had something to do with the date and number of episodes (I forget now). Is this true, there is no running gag? I don't know why they'd miss the opportunity, unless they thought it'd just be too hard for viewers to catch it in it's original TV format (although that's easily fixable). Also, should maybe mention the "NRA4EVER" thing?AnnaGoFast (talk) 16:57, 17 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
